Highlights from SOFA New York

SOFA New York 2011
Highlights

The SOFA New York exhibit has successfully concluded and gallery gen would like to thank everyone who joined visited us at the Armory, and also to those who called or e-mailed from abroad. SOFA New York drew new collectors as well as prominent New York architects and designers. (see opening night photos from official SOFA site).  The following link is a great blog which also features the best walking sculptures at SOFA!

Notable collectors of textile came to see Jun-ichi Arai's new textiles. Many ceramic collectors who never miss this show grinned with joy when they found Goro Suzuki's latest Yobi-tsugi Tea Ware created entirely out of wood-fired rocks & quarts (no clay!). Warren MacKenzie collectors were surprised and delighted to have come across the last few pieces from the Midwest show, and the Japanese lacquered bowls featured in our invitation e-mail were snatched up on the opening night. With so much cutting edge objects on display, the serene Japanese Nihonga paintings by Bokuma stood out in its peacefulness. Last but not least, Yoshiaki Yuki's new screens, which are more sculpture than anything, generated a vibrant feel to our exhibit with promising results.

Below are the selected pieces from gallery gen in good hands of our guests, and you can also see what others acquired from galleries at SOFA. We have now resumed normal hours so please visit, or forward inquiries to our studio showroom in Long Island City 718-392-7717 or info@gallerygen.com.
